Evolution, NOT Revolution

Updated: 7 days ago

Most of us know, somewhere within ourselves, that our current systems and models for life on earth are breaking down... our existing norms and systems are no longer reliable, or sustainable. And while events, information and the pace of life is accelerating at a truly ferocious pace, wisdom in our world, is nowhere to be found.

It is no longer a choice, but a must. We must begin to create a New Earth .

In the Indian tradition, one of the principal energetic archetypes is Shiva, the Destroyer or Transformer. Said to be the most powerful of the energies, Indian spiritual wisdom does not avoid or fear destructive power. Rather, it recognises it as an inseparable aspect of creation.

So can we, like the Ancients, embrace and harness the power available to us in this time?

Revolution has always been seen as the answer to oppression, but if we enquire more deeply into this term, we will see that it refers to a cycle that returns to its original point. This is an often overlooked truth - that time and time again, history repeats itself. All revolutions, over time, return to the same cycle of systemic oppression and exploitation. Incredible movements for freedom and justice all eventually contract back into systems of fear and control.

But somewhere, deep within us, we still dream for a world that might just be possible. For what the ancients pointed to in prophecies as transcendence, not repetition. Christianity refers to Zion; whilst the Vedics and Buddhist speak of a Golden Age; Taoists foretell an Age of Great Peace, and Zoroastrians of a Renewal and Enlightenment; whilst Astrologers and New Age thinkers refer to the Age of Aquarius. It is written into the heart of humanity, across time and space.

To create a truly transcendent world, however, we must travel (an) Unknown Path(ways). A Path that has no map, but as Rumi wrote, a path that unfolds as we walk it. Known paths must always result in known realities: the cycle of revolution over and over again. It is only the Unknown, therefore, that can create this unknown New Earth.

For this New Earth, we will need a new consciousness. As Einstein once wrote: "you cannot solve a problem from the same level of consciousness that created it".

Evolution is an upwards movement of consciousness. One that rises to higher and higher points of awareness and sight. For it is awareness that is needed, more than knowledge. It is wisdom that will help us more than power. And it is presence that can open possibilities that our minds cannot yet imagine.

It is through the evolution of consciousness, that the evolution of our world is possible
